About the Department

The office of the Advocate General Meghalaya came into existence during the year 1970-1971. The Advocate General for the State is appointed under Article 165(1) of the Constitution of India, in this article it has been provided that the Governor of each State shall appoint a person who is qualified to be appointed a judge of a High Court to be Advocate General for the State.
